In 1526, the emperor   <\/span><b>Charles V<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  decided to build a palace within the enclosure to establish his residence in the city. To do so, he commissioned the design to the architect   <\/span><b>Pedro Machuca<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who had studied in Italy and brought with him the influences of the Renaissance.<\/span><\/p><h3><b>The unfinished project<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Construction began in <\/span><b>1527<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The building was never fully completed due to various political and economic circumstances. For centuries, the building remained without a roof, until in the 20th century restorations were carried out to finish it.
