Its name comes from the Arabic term &#8220;al-Bartal&#8221;, which means &#8220;portico&#8221;, in reference to the main structure that dominates the area. <\/span><\/p><h3><b>Abandonment and restoration<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the Christian conquest in 1492, many areas of the Alhambra were transformed or even destroyed.
